The ball is already rolling in Kunming. The youth football tournament Mediterranean Champion kicked off today with an Opening Ceremony, opened by Gianluca Zambrotta, 2006 World Cup Champion, and it became the first ever tournament organized by a Spanish company in Asia. The managers of Mare Nostrum Cup, based in Salou, Spain, signed an agreement with the Asian Company China Sports Futurity Investment (CSFI) to launch the MCC until 2027. The first edition is taking place in Kunming from August 18th to 25th.
The tournament will have two competitions: U14 boys and U13 girls, including a qualification round with over 900 Chinese teams to earn a spot in Kunming. Finally there are 16 teams in BU14, 12 from China and 4 Europeans: RCD Espanyol and Valencia CF (Spain), KAA Gent (Belgium) and Brondby IF (Denmark). In the Gu13 competition there are 8 aspiring teams to lift the trophy: 6 Chinese and two from Europe: Espanyol and Turbine Potsdam (Germany). The winners of the Asian event will get a wild card to participate at the Mare Nostrum Cup 2019.
The opening ceremony and the match Valencia-Tianjin were accessible via live streaming from the website to a total of over 5 millions of viewers.
The European clubs Valencia, Espanyol and Gent started the MCC winning, while Brondby was beaten.
